Cortaca

Cortaca Weekend. For those who go to Ithaca College, enough is said in those two words. For the others, let me break it down for you.

Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland’s football teams go head to head, and we call the game “Cortaca.” I couldn’t tell you if it is a close game each year or not, because I don’t remember it last year and didn’t go this year.

That weekend is utter mayhem for the two schools. This year I didn’t go to the game, but I still celebrated the mini-holiday it creates here in Ithaca. I held myself together better than last year, though, as this year I didn’t end up getting x-rays.

We have all been preparing for this weekend for a while, figuring out plans and whatnot. The funny thing is that nothing was finalized until the day of.

“Hi, I need a taxi service to take me to Cortland,” I said to the operator.

“What company do you want?” she said.

“Just give me the one that is cheapest.”

Apparently the operator can’t tell the cheapest, and she got mad at me for asking.

After calling the same place twice in a row by accident, I decided just to go with them. The thing is that I didn’t end up going to the game and it didn’t matter because they didn’t show up. Funny, how stuff works out.
