Video: IC Unbound ends the semester with a high-energy performance

Ithaca College’s most successful and popular dance club filled Emerson Suites not once, but twice, last Sunday at “Just Can’t Stop,” its semester-end performances, the matinee at 2 p.m. and the last show at 8 p.m.
IC Unbound -- which graduated its four founding members in 2007, transitioned a new executive board last year, and according to senior president Kimmery Geane, is finally back on its feet -- is made up of about 50 student dancers and 17 choreographers. Open auditions are held in August and any returning dancer is eligible to choreograph a routine. IC Unbound is the only dance organization on campus that incorporates all styles of dance including hip-hop, lyrical, jazz, ballet and tap, though this year there weren’t any tap performances. Dancers, and even choreographers, range from the beginner level to advanced.

Because of scheduling conflicts in Emerson Suites, IC Unbound had to perform almost a month earlier than usual. Geane said the choreographers had to plan accordingly to make sure their dancers could perform on the new schedule. She said the dances were shorter, but ended up cleaner because of it.
Senior Courtney Grey, the club’s secretary, said the shows were a success and it felt good to perform.
“It was nice to be onstage,” she said. “But it’s sad to work so hard all semester and then it’s just over in a few performances.”
Each performance lasted about an hour and a half and the audience included students, parents, faculty and staff -- and even dancers who had finished performing.
“It’s great to have your support system out there,” Geane said.
