Senior pitcher and staff ace Nick Sottung started for the Bombers in the 5–0 victory. Sottung pitched a one-hitter in a complete game effort, striking out six and walking two. With the win, Sottung became Ithaca’s all time leader in innings pitched with 275.1 and strikeouts with 228. Kyle Sottung ’04, Nick’s cousin, previously held both of these records.
Senior center fielder Matt Samela led the Blue and Gold from the plate, going 2–3 with a double and scoring two runs.
Sophomore pitcher Tom Fishback started game two for the South Hill squad, pitching five innings of shutout ball. He only surrendered one hit and one walk while striking out five in the 5–0 win.
Junior Bryan Gardner relieved Fishback in the sixth to finish the game. Gardner gave up two hits and an earned run while striking out four.
Senior shortstop Josh Smith went 2–3 with a double and two RBI.
With the win, the Bombers have won 12 straight against the Empire 8 and are riding a 17 game winning streak.
The next game for the Blue and Gold is at 4 p.m. Wednesday against SUNY-Cortland at Freeman Field.
