The baseball team has endured a fair amount of success over the past three weeks of its season.

After starting the out putridly at 2–9, the Bombers have upped their record to 15–14 overall and 7–3 in the Empire 8 with a 5–3 mark since April 15.

It all started with a dominating 13–3 win at SUNY-New Paltz. Having solid days for the Blue and Gold that day were junior third baseman David Ahonen and freshman designated hitter Sean Weber, who both hit home runs. Weber also drove in four RBIs.

On April 20, they lost a heartbreaker to No. 25 University of Rochester at Freeman Field 5–2 in 11 innings. The Blue and Gold came back late to tie the game at two, but then in the top of the 11th, a combination of an error, wild pitch, walk and a few hits put Rochester in front.

The Blue and Gold then split a doubleheader at St. John Fisher College. Following a 10–8 loss in the first game, the second contest was a tight-knit 4–2 win, where the South Hill squad scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and an insurance run in the ninth.

Senior captain and pitcher Tom Fishback was once again solid, going the whole game and allowing only six hits.

The win against Fisher started a four-game winning streak for Ithaca. On Wednesday, the Bombers defeated St. Lawrence University at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse, N.Y., 13–8. The next day, they thrashed SUNY-Oneonta at Freeman Field 13–5. Then, this past Saturday, they beat SUNY-Brockport 10–5 at home as well.

However, on Sunday, they Blue and Gold’s winning streak ended against visiting SUNY-Cortland, losing 14–3. Before the game, the Red Dragons were having a very good season at 29–7–1.

The Blue and Gold were never in the game as right out of the gate, the Red Dragons put up two runs in the first inning and three in the second. Starting pitcher Aaron Sapp, who couldn’t record an out in the second inning, was charged for all five runs.

Cortland put up five more runs in the top of the fourth before the Blue and Gold even scored in the bottom of the fifth.

The Bombers play Clarkson University at 4 p.m. today at Alliance Bank Stadium.
