Nov 15, 2007 | Israel is a very small nation. It is only 83 miles wide and 265 miles long. In this small area of land, one can find snow, desert, mountains, lakes, rivers and beaches. Besides the beautiful nature in Israel, the infrastructure is very modern and advanced.

There are tall residential and commercial buildings — once, I overheard a visitor say, as they glanced at Israel’s emerging city, Ramat Gan, “It’s just like Manhattan, only smaller.” The roads are straight, smooth and clean with convenient sidewalks for pedestrians and bicycle riders.

The advanced technology and infrastructure is one of the many reasons why Israel is sometimes considered a Western nation, despite its geographical location in the Middle East.

Nov 15, 2007 | This winter break, a group of Ithaca College students will travel to Israel on a trip funded by Taglit-Birthright. Birthright offers free trips to Israel for Jewish students who have never visited the country. The itineraries vary, but most take groups to religious sites and tourist attractions in order to introduce students to Israeli culture and society.

The students who travel to Israel this winter will find a beautiful country, with a stunning geography, great food and friendly, interesting people. They will visit ancient sites that represent a link to their ancestors and, for the religious among them, God. As Birthright intends, many will return with a strengthened feeling of attachment to the Jewish state of Israel.

Sep 20, 2007 | Burma’s current and brutal military regime, led by dictator Senior General Than Shwe, is a severe threat to the peace of innocent civilians in Burma. Villages are burned to the ground, children are being forced to be soldiers and the military junta continue to use rape as a weapon.
