Lasting values
Like EcoVillage, White Hawk’s creation offers an additional community venue for students to embrace sustainability.
For the past 11 years, Ithaca College has maintained a relationship with EcoVillage, a local sustainable living community. Now Ithaca has announced a new, more agriculturally focused sustainable living community, White Hawk, to be built in nearby Danby.
A collaboration with White Hawk could blossom like the one the college shares with EcoVillage. Between the two learning entities, the school and the community could exchange knowledge and ideas for the future of sustainability and environment-friendly living. Together, members of White Hawk, the college and the Ithaca community should work together to solve the earth’s problems and plan a sustainable future. Students could spend a semester “abroad” living on site at White Hawk or take on an internship there. Guest speakers from White Hawk could also come to campus.
The Ithacan has often promoted sustainability by noting the college’s efforts and achievements on its pages. This message of sustainability should carry into a relationship with White Hawk.
