The Empire 8 announced today that the Presidents Council has decided to allow public institutions both in and near New York state to join the Empire 8 conference as a football-only member.
Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano said the following in the conference's press release.
“This decision has the potential to enhance our football conference and position us for a very stable long-term future. It can also potentially enhance our relationships with public institutions in our area and communities.”
Currently there are seven schools that compete in football - Ithaca College, St. John Fisher College, Alfred University, Hartwick College, Norwich University, Utica College and Springfield University. Norwich will no longer be a part of the Empire 8 after the 2008 season.
