Springfield got on the board first with a 25-yard touchdown run by junior running back Joe Myrhen 30 seconds into the game. But Ithaca answered with two touchdowns. The first came on a 16-yard pass from senior quarterback Brian Grastorf to junior tight end Matt Crandall, while the second came on a 1-yard run by freshman running back Clay Ardoin. The touchdown was the first in Ardoin’s young career.
Both teams mustered 20 points in the first half, with three touchdowns and one blocked extra point each.
The Bombers third touchdown came on a 31-yard pass from junior wide receiver Dan Ruffrage to junior wide receiver Thomas Vossler. Ruffrage’s touchdown pass marked the first in his career.
The scoring slowed in the second quarter as the Bombers headed into halftime with a 23–20 lead. They quickly fell behind as Springfield rallied for 27 unanswered points in the second half.
The Blue and Gold play their final two games at home starting at 1 p.m. Saturday as they take on Alfred University at Butterfield Stadium.
