Bombers finish second against ranked opponents

The
No. 5 gymnastics team had an impressive showing at the Harriet Marranca
Memorial Invitational Saturday, finishing second out of four teams and
recording a season-best score of 183.000.
The South Hill squad beat No. 1 ranked SUNY-Brockport, who they had previously lost to in their season opener. The Bombers also defeated No. 4 Wilson College, while losing against No. 6 SUNY-Cortland by four tenths of a point.
Sophomore Jessica Bolduc was the leading scorer among all gymnasts, finishing first with a career-best 9.650 on the uneven bars and capturing the all-around title with a score of 37.475. Bolduc also placed second on the floor exercise and tied for third on vault.
The Bombers looked dominant, with four gymnasts in the top six places on the floor exercise. Bolduc was joined by senior Brianne Sullivan and junior Kailee Spusta who tied for fourth with a score of 9.575 and freshman Katie Sampson who placed sixth with a 9.475.
Senior Rachel Taylor had another notable performance, placing third on uneven bars with a 9.225. Sophomore Kay Gordon led the Blue and Gold on the balance beam with a score of 9.075 and a fourth place finish in the all-around with her score of 35.700.
The Blue and Gold extend their record to 5-9 on the season and will continue competition on Feb. 26 against Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa.
