Men's basketball clinches third ECAC title

The men's basketball team took home the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship title for the third time in its history today as it defeated SUNY-Brockport 78–71.

The Bombers defeated Brockport in the 2000 and 2006 in the semifinals of the ECAC tournaments before clinching the title.

The Bombers advanced to the final after defeating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute  88–67 yesterday. The team took control early in its semifinal matchup with the Red Hawks, taking the lead for good less than four minutes into the game.

Freshman Andrei Oztemel led the team in scoring with 22 points off the bench. Junior Chris Cruz-Rivas and sophomore Jordan Marcus both reached double figures as well, netting 19 and 21, respectively.

Freshman Sean Rossi set a new Ithaca single-season record in assists with 218. He earned nine in the game. Rossi extended his own record in the finals to 221.

In the finals, the Blue and Gold battled with the Golden Eagles throughout the second half. The game was within five almost all of the second half before the Bombers pulled away with about two minutes left in the game.

Junior Phil Barera picked up his 15th double-double of the season with 23 poitns and 11 rebounds.

The South Hill squad wrapped up its season with an overall record of 20–8. Rossi leads the nation in assists and assists per game while Barera finished the year with a 65.3 field goal percentage, the second-best in Ithaca's history.
