Bombers finish with eight in top-10

The men’s track and field team had a strong showing at the
Kane Invitational at Cornell University Saturday, recording eight top-10
finishes at the meet.
Junior Chris Stahlmann posted Ithaca’s best finish, fourth overall, in the high jump. Stahlmann cleared 1.89 meters in the event. Freshmen Jeffery Willis also added a top-10 finish to the Bombers’ resume, vaulting 4.55 meters in the pole vault and finishing fifth overall.
In the 60-meter dash, junior Max Orenstein placed fifth with a time of 7.16. Orenstein’s time of 7.09 in the preliminaries was .03 seconds off of the school’s all-time record. Freshmen Matt Confer, who tied the school record in the 55-meter hurdles earlier this season, finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.66 seconds.
In the distance events, sophomore Brian McCormick and senior Scott Walker both finished in the top-10 ten, coming in sixth (4:27.73) and ninth (4:30.47), respectively. Senior Curt Bell finished fifth overall in the 3,000-meter event with a time of 8:54.55, with sophomore Daniel Craighead coming in seventh with a close time of 8:57.30.
The Blue and Gold return to competition at the Deneault Invitational Saturday at Barton Hall at Cornell University. The team will also host the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championship pentathlon Sunday at Barton Hall.
