Blue and Gold compete at three invitationals

The men’s track and field team was spilt up over the weekend, with athletes competing at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory in New York, N.Y., the Tufts Invitational in Medford, Mass and at the Syracuse Invitational in Syracuse, N.Y.

At the Armory, the 1,600-meter relay team of juniors Max Orenstein and Jeff Wetmore, sophomore Doug Koury and freshman Chris Mastrosimone ran a time of 3:26.77 and finished eighth in the event.

Competing in the triple jump, sophomore Travis Johnson cleared 12.67 meters, finishing 25th overall.  

At the Tufts Invitational, the Bombers were paced by freshman Matt Confer, who won the 55-meter hurdles and qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships. Confer tied an Ithaca College record for the event with his time of 7.93.

Junior Chris Wilber finished fourth in the high jump competition at 1.86 meters.

Competing in the 3,000-meter run, junior John Davis finished with a time of 8:58.44, placing fifth overall.

The Bombers 4x200 meter relay team of junior Brian Turnbull, sophomore Dan Moloney and freshmen Rad Arrindell and Ian Tapler, finished third overall with a time of 1:36.04.

At the Syracuse Invitational, senior Andrew Brown and freshman Jeff Willis competed in the pole vault against 26 other athletes. Willis placed sixth, second among Division III athletes, clearing 4.50 meters. Brown did not clear the opening height.

The Blue and Gold will see their next competition at the Kane Invitational, Saturday at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
