Blue and Gold improve to 8-0 with win against Fisher
| Staff Writer
The Bombers entered the game with an 8–0 record, while Fisher came in with a 6–1 mark, so on paper the game looked like it would be another close Empire 8 match up. The two teams did not disappoint either, as Ithaca escaped with a hard-fought 12–7 victory.
The Bombers went into the fourth quarter with only a one-goal lead. But it was then that the Bombers made one of their now signature second-half runs, scoring five goals in the final session to put the game out of reach. The 12–7 win extended the Bombers’ conference-record Empire 8 win streak to 25.
Ithaca freshman Michael Hennessy took six of the last seven face offs in the game, which was the deciding factor in that final quarter. Junior attack Alec Siefert took advantage of those possessions, putting in two of his career-high four goals during the last session.
Sophomore attack Nic Heckman also joined in the fourth-quarter surge with one of his two goals in the game.
The defense as a whole also proved to be a factor in the fourth quarter, tallying a game-high 13 ground balls. Junior Matt Cutter came off the bench and led the team with six groundballs.
The Bombers will put their No. 3 ranking and 8–0 record on the line at 1 p.m. Saturday on Carp Wood Field against the Rochester Institute of Technology.
