Squad scores six in fourth, nips No. 11 Nazareth
Staff Writer |

Though the sun was shining in Ithaca for the first time in a while, the mood surrounding Carp Wood Field was bleak yesterday afternoon as the sixth-ranked men’s lacrosse team trailed conference rival No. 11 Nazareth College 7–2 in the third quarter.

“It was kind of rough getting down like that right away,” senior Pete Schick said. “[But] we knew we could win that game.”

The Blue and Gold showed the poise and confidence needed to overcome the five-goal deficit, exploding for six goals in the fourth quarter en route to a 10–9 come-from-behind victory.

Ithaca owned Nazareth in every facet of the game in the final quarter. They outscored the Golden Flyers 6–1, had 11 more shots on goal, picked up five more groundballs and won six of eight face-offs.

“We tried forcing the ball early on,” senior Craig Lepiane said. “In that fourth quarter, we made sure to keep things simple.”

Saturday’s fourth-quarter comeback was a testament to the hard work the team has put in all season. Lepiane also said that last season the Bombers wouldn’t have been able to orchestrate such a comeback. Since everyone is buying in to the winning attitude, the Bombers are more successful than ever.

With four games to go in the regular season, Ithaca is 10–1 overall and 4–1 in the Empire 8. The Bombers’ next game will take place at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Carp Wood Field against non-conference opponent Union College.
