Defense leads to Bomber win
Staff Writer |
The No. 3 men’s lacrosse team, then ranked No. 4, won its first conference game of the season Wednesday, defeating visiting Alfred University 8–3 at Upper Terrace Field.

The Bombers are very strong defensively this season, anchored by senior defenders Neth Wiedemann and Michael Serron, along with sophomore goalie David Gal, who was named Nike/Inside Lacrosse NCAA Division III Player of the Week the week before the game.

Serron scooped up a career-high six ground balls in the win and forced three turnovers. Wiedemann also had six ground balls and forced four turnovers. Gal continued his stellar season with seven saves.

While defense was the story of this game, offensively the Blue and Gold were solid on the offensive end as well. They won 12 of 15 face offs, and had five different players score.

Freshman attackman Tom Mongelli and senior attackman Alec Siefert both had two goals and an assist.

Sophomore midfielder Mike Silipo scored a career high two goals and junior attackman/midfielder Nic Heckman, along with senior attackman Chris Carman both had a goal of their own.

This win put the Bombers record at 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8.
