Bombers continue conference play
Staff Writer |
The men’s lacrosse team fell to Rochester Institute of Technology 10–7 on Apr. 4 in Rochester, N.Y. and defeated Utica College 17–9 Wednesday in Utica. N.Y.

In the loss to RIT, the Bombers’ first loss of the season, Ithaca was down for most of the game. The team trailed 6–2 in the second quarter, but made a comeback to be down 8–7 in the fourth. Unfortunately for the Blue and Gold, the Tigers scored the last two goals of the game to put it away.

Leading the Bombers on the offense during the game was senior midfielder Kevin Bush and freshman attackman Tom Mongelli. Both scored two goals. Also scoring a goal was senior tri-captain Matt Cutter, senior attackman Alec Siefert and junior midfielder Nic Heckman.

Even in the loss, sophomore goalie David Gal made 15 saves and the South Hill squad won 14 of 20 face offs.

What hurt Ithaca in this game were shots on goal and turnovers. RIT out shot the Bombers 38–27 and turned the ball over only 17 times compared to Ithaca’s 32.

The Blue and Gold rebounded four days later however, when they traveled to Utica, for what would be an offensive explosion on Ithaca’s end.

Through the first three quarters, the Bombers led 16–4, scooping up 40 ground balls and winning 20 of 30 face offs.

Siefert scored six goals, bringing his season total to 35, while freshman attackman Devin Weinshank scored a career-high three goals. Senior attackman Chris Carman and Heckman scored two goals each for the South Hill squad. Also, Bush, sophomore midfielder Mike Silipo and freshman attackman Michael Edwards dished out two assists each. Silipo netted a goal as well.

Gal made eight saves in the game, however in only 45 minutes. Senior tri-captain and goalie Ben Connery saw 15 minutes of action, making four saves.
