Bombers defeat Maritime for eighth win
| Staff Writer
Though the score suggests a well played game, it was quite the contrary for the Blue and Gold. They didn’t pull away until the second half and played up to their capabilities at times.
“It’s always good to win, but we seem to be playing down to others teams’ levels here and there,” senior attackman Alec Siefert, said. “We need to pick it up.“
Siefert was a monster on the offensive side of the field, especially in the second half, as he had four goals and a career-high three assists on the game for seven points.
After an uncharacteristically slow first half for the South Hill squad, they were only up 6–5 after two quarters. Going into halftime, the Privateers of Maritime more fired up than Ithaca.
However, when the Bombers took the field in the second half, they seemed like a completely different team.
Ithaca went on a 7–2 run to go up 12–7 in the fourth. The score eventually went to 14–8.
Senior midfielder Chris Carman, junior midfielder Nic Heckman and freshman attackman Tom Mongelli each scored in the third.
In the fourth, Heckman, junior midfielder Nick Neuman and sophomore attackman Kevin Ferris scored a goal, while Siefert scored two.
The Bombers won 20 of 25 faceoffs and 11 of those were won by Neuman, a career-high. His two assists and six ground balls were also career highs.
