Men's lacrosse beats conference rival Fisher
| Staff Writer
The Blue and Gold took care of No. 23 ranked and previously undefeated St. John Fisher College yesterday at Upper Terrace Field 12–¬6.
Since Ithaca is not an offensive powerhouse, the story of this game, and many others this season was the face offs and the defense.
Ithaca won 16 of 21 draws, limiting the amount of possessions for the Cardinals. Its defense is solid with the likes of senior defenders Neth Wiedemann and Michael Serron and sophomore goalie David Gal, making winning the majority of the face offs helpful.
Senior midfeidler Matt Ruhnke won 10 out of 12 draws that he took part in. He also scored two goals in the first quarter, allowing the Bombers to take a 4–1 lead.
In the third quarter, the South Hill squad scored three goals in 58 seconds to take a commanding 8–2 lead. Senior attackman Alec Siefert scored two goals and had two assists in the game. His season total is now 28 goals and 40 points.
Senior attackman and tri-captain Mike Cutter and junior midfielder Nick Neuman both scored two goals.
Other goal scorers were freshman attackman Tom Mongelli, junior midfielder Nic Heckman, junior attackman/midfielder Mike Lohan and senior attackman Chris Carman.
Gal had five saves and his record is now 8–0 on the season. The team’s overall record is 9–0 and 2–0 in the Empire 8.
The Bombers’ next game is at 1 p.m. Saturday against Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y.
