| Staff Writer

The men’s swimming and diving team defeated host Hamilton College 146–91, but was outscored by SUNY-Geneseo 134–103 and Hartwick College 126–117 in the quad meet Saturday.

Underclassmen led the Bombers as sophomore Antoine Connors won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.02 seconds and placed in the 100-yard free in 48.63 seconds. Sophomore Derek Rand finished second in both diving events with a score of 203.15 in the 3-meter diving event and 208.35 in the 1-meter diving event.

Sophomore Jeff Rapp finished third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:01.93 and senior Matt Carolan finished third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.11.

The Blue and Gold, who were victorious in only two events, won the meet’s final event as the 400-yard freestyle relay team touched first in 3:16.77. The team consisted of freshman Jake Robbins, junior Steve Croucher, freshman Christopher Caldwell and Connors.

The Bombers, who started their 2009 campaign with three consecutive victories, have dropped three of their past four contests.

The South Hill squad will look to rebound from its recent struggles Dec. 4 when the team competes in the Don Richards Invitational hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.
