The men’s swimming and diving team finished second out of six teams at the Don Richards Memorial Invitational Sunday. After the first two days of competition, the Bombers were atop the standings with a 50-point lead, but lost their lead on Sunday. Alfred University narrowly won, edging out the Blue and Gold by 2.5 points.
The consistency of the divers over three days of competition helped the Bombers remain in contention for first place on Sunday. Ithaca divers finished third through sixth in the three-meter dive and took third through seventh in the one-meter dive events. Sophomore Derek Rand lead the squad, finished third in both diving events.
Sophomore Jeff Rapp had a strong performance for the Blue and Gold, winning the 400-yard individual medley, finishing second in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke and helping two relay teams to third place finishes.
The 200-yard free relay team composed of freshman Jake Robbins, junior Kramer Jakubek, junior Steve Croucher, and sophomore Antoine Connors finished second. The 400-yard and 800-yard free relay squads finished third in their respective events.
The South Hill squad returns to action at 1 p.m. January 16 at the Henry Kumpf Invitational in Troy, N.Y.
