The Blue and Gold, who rely on their solid core of underclassmen, received stellar performances from sophomore Antoine Connors and freshman Jake Lichter who combined to win six events. Sophomore Jeff Rapp won the 200-yard individual medley and swam the first leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, which included Lichter, freshman Jake Robbins, and junior Jerry Diamond.
Sophomore Derek Rand won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events with scores of 239.65 and 253.50, respectively.
On Jan. 16, the Bombers competed in the Henry Kumpf Invitational hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In the meet, the South Hill Squad defeated Rensselaer 139–104, SUNY-Oneonta 189–48, Skidmore College 193–48, and Vassar College 178–64. Ithaca’s only loss came to rival SUNY-Cortland 147–96.
Rapp, Ithaca’s only event winner in the meet, touched first in the 200-yard individual medley. Junior Norman Nguyen placed third in the 1-meter dive and Rand finished fifth in the 3-meter dive.
Ithaca will compete in the Hill Center Pool for the first time in over two months when they challenge Alfred University at 1 p.m. Saturday.
