Men's tennis earns piece of conference title

The men’s tennis team clinched a share of the Empire 8 regular season title with a 9–0 victory over Hartwick College. This win extends the team’s winning streak to six, as the team remains undefeated 7–0 in conference play, winning 11 of their last 12 matches overall.

Junior Taylor Borda won in straight sets 6–3, 6–3, while sophomore Josh Rifkin remained undefeated, shutting out his opponent 6–0, 6–0. Freshmen Jimmy Newton, Mike Muraco and Dan Levine all won in straight sets, with Newton winning in a shutout 6–0, 6–0, Muraco in 6–4, 6–3 and Levine winning 6–4, 6–4. Senior co-captain Andrew Dunnick wrapped up singles competition, winning in three sets, 4–6, 6–3, 10–6.

In doubles competition, Borda and Rifkin continued winning in first singles 8–3, while Dunnick and Muraco also posted a point, winning 9–7. Senior co-captain Seth Magnani and Newton won 8–4, for the third and final point in doubles competition.

This victory brings the Bombers’ overall record to 14–3 and qualifies the team for the Empire 8 Championship Tournament, May 2 and 3 at St. John Fisher College.

The next action for the Blue and Gold is at 11 a.m. Saturday against Nazareth College at the Ithaca College Tennis Courts.
