Blue and Gold finish third at New Jersey Invitational

At the New Jersey Invitational this past weekend, the men’s track and field team finished in third place overall. Five athletes qualified for ECACs.

Freshman Andrew Brown was one of the qualifiers with a win in the pole vault of 4.20 meters. In the javelin, sophomore Cory Petermann posted a second-place finish and qualified with a distance of 52.03 meters.

In the hurdles, sophomore Micheal Wodarski qualified in both the 110-meter race and the 400-meter race. Also in the hurdles, freshman Dennis Akey notched a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter race and a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter race.

In the 5,000-meter run, sophomores Tim Shea and Drew Hodge took first and second place, respectively. Shea qualified for ECACs with a time of 15:23.27 seconds.

In the throwing events, senior Brian Banning finished third in the discus, fourth in the hammer throw and 12th in the shot put. Junior James Aucoin placed seventh in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump.

The 4x400 relay team was very close to qualifying for ECAC, off by about 0.4 seconds. The team included sophomore Micheal Wodarski, senior Steve Desmond, senior Matt Manzi and freshman Joel Trager. The 4x100 relay team finished third.

The next meet for the men’s track and field team will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Clinton, N.Y., at the Hamilton Open.
