Dining hall employee dies after collapse yesterday in Towers
Staff Writer |
Jerry Smith, the Sodexo employee who collapsed while working in the Towers dining hall yesterday, passed away later that day.

Smith, a cook in the dining hall, experienced chest pain and difficulty breathing yesterday morning.  He passed out and was taken to Cayuga Medical Center, according to Public Safety Investigator Tom Dunn.

Smith received CPR and defibrillation at the scene and regained his pulse before leaving for the hospital, Dunn said.  However, Smith was not able to recover, and passed away a few hours later.

Smith worked on campus for seven years.  Towers dining hall employees were offered on-site counseling today.  Sodexo, the company that services the dining halls, is offering further counseling through human resources.

Jeffrey Scott, director of dining services, could not be reached for comment.
