Public Safety declares ponds on campus unsafe areas

The Office of Public Safety is asking that people stay off the ponds on Ithaca College campus because of safety concerns.
Investigator Tom Dunn said people should not walk on the ponds because they may not be completely frozen over.
He said the retention pond for run-off on Farm Pond Road near the Office of Public Safety building has running water still draining from its drainage pipe.
Dunn also said Public Safety is concerned that a person can get hypothermia by falling through the pond in less than 15 minutes and they may not be able to get out of the pond themselves.
Manager of Environmental Health and Safety Tim Ryan wrote an Intercom announcement about the dangers of walking on the pond that can be read by clicking here.
