Staff Writer |

The softball team has posted a 6–2 mark in its last eight games, sweeping doubleheaders against Utica College, Nazareth College and SUNY-Oneonta, while being swept by Cornell University.

On Saturday the Blue and Gold defeated the Pioneers at home 11–0 and 12–3, both in five innings. Senior shortstop and co-captain Erica Cutspec went six-for-six in the doubleheader and senior pitcher Carly Myers extended her consecutive shutout inning streak to 31 straight innings.

The following day, the South Hill squad traveled to Nazareth and shut out the Golden Flyers 7–0 in both games. The hitting throughout the team was once again stellar and Myers stretched her impressive streak to 38 straight innings.

On Tuesday the Bombers shut out another opponent, defeating Oneonta 2–0 and 11–0. Senior pitcher and co-captain Nicole Cade pitched a four-hit shutout in the first game, and Myers raised her streak to 43 consecutive shutout innings in game two.

Freshman catcher and designated hitter Kerry Barger went three-for-three in game two, scoring a run and driving in five.

All the fun ended yesterday though, as the Blue and Gold hosted Cornell at Kostrinsky Field. The Bombers were shut out in a doubleheader 6–0 and 8–0. Ithaca compiled only four hits in game one and no hits in game two. Ali Tomlinson of Cornell carried a no-hitter through five innings of work. Myers streak ended at 43 straight innings, as the Big Red scored runs in the first inning against the senior.

The Blue and Gold’s record now stands at 26–8 overall and 12–0 in the Empire 8. Ithaca’s next game will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kostrinsky Field against Medaille College.
