Staff Writer |
The softball team’s 12-game winning streak came to a halt yesterday as the Bombers lost to King’s College 5–4 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Blue and Gold were victories in game two by a score of 1–0, helping to improve their record to 20–6 overall.

In the first game, the Blue and Gold were up early 2–0 in the first inning, due to another home run by freshman third baseman Allison Greaney, this one her third of he season. Greaney was three-for-four in the game, with two RBIs and one run scored.

King’s would tie the game in the bottom of the third inning. Both teams would add two more runs in the fourth inning to make the score 4–4. No scoring would happen in the next three innings, so the game went to extra innings.

In the bottom of the eight, King’s scored the winning run to make the score final at 5–4.

In the second game, Greaney was once again the star for the Bombers at the plate. In the fourth inning, she drove in the only run of the game, on a two-out single.

Senior pitcher Carly Myers was stellar, pitching a complete game, allowing only four hits, striking out six and walking three. She has now pitched 28 consecutive scoreless innings.

The softball team’s next game will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kostrinsky Field in a doubleheader against Empire 8 opponent Utica College.
