The No. 20 Bombers won the first game 7–2 and the second game 4–0. They have now won eight in a row and 11 out of their last 12 games to improve to 15–5 on the season.
In the first game, senior pitcher and co-captain Nicole Cade was solid throughout, pitching six shutout innings before letting up two runs in the bottom of the seventh. That would not matter though because the Blue and Gold’s offensive game produced one run in the second, three in the third and three in the seventh.
Cade still managed to pitch a complete game, allowing only two runs on six hits, with four walks and three strikeouts.
Seven out of the nine Bombers got hits in the first game, led by senior co–captain and shortstop Eric Cutspec, who was three for four, scoring two runs and driving in one.
Other members of the South Hill squad who were successful at the plate were freshman third baseman Allison Greaney, who went one-for-four and scored two runs, senior catcher Stacy Pelesz, who went two-for-four and scored one run, and sophomore first baseman Caitlin Ryan, who went one-for-three and led the Blue and Gold with two RBI.
One factor that helped Ithaca score seven runs was the fact that Rochester committed three costly errors.
In the second game, errors continued to be detrimental to Rochester, as the Bombers would score two unearned runs off of two errors. Runs for the South Hill squad came in one piece at a time, as a run was scored in the first, second, sixth and seventh innings.
Freshman right fielder Kait Dolan provided the most complete offensive game for the Bombers in the second half of the doubleheader. Leading off, she went one-for-three with a run scored and one RBI.
Cutspec was once again stellar, as she went two-for-four, scoring one run. Other notable players were freshman catcher Kerry Barger, who came in as a pinch hitter and went one-for-two, and also scored one of Ithaca’s four runs. Senior second baseman Jessica Stangarone was another Bomber who scored during the game, and also went two-for-three.
Along with Dolan, Pelesz and senior left fielder Amanda Kowalsick drove in the other runs for the South Hill squad. Pelesz went one-for-four, driving in two runs, while Kowalsick went two-for-two, driving in one run.
Like her classmate Cade, senior pitcher Carly Myers also pitched a complete game, giving up only three hits, striking out two and walking only one.
The Bombers are back in action this at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kostrinsky Field as they host the Rochester Institute of Technology in a doubleheader.
