In four games in Rochester, N.Y., this weekend, the softball team went undefeated in doubleheaders over St. John Fisher and Nazareth colleges to improve to 16–8 overall and 7–1 in Empire 8 play.

On Saturday, in the first game against Fisher, who was picked to place first in the preseason Empire 8 coaches’ poll, junior catcher Kerry Barger and freshman outfielder Molly O’Donnell led the offensive attack with a home run each.

Junior Allison Greaney pitched a complete game and allowed only four hits, two walks and one earned run while striking out a career-high 10 batters in the 7–1 win. Greaney improved to 7–1 and lowered her ERA to 2.10.

In game two, junior Brittany Lillie shut out the Cardinals while only allowing one hit—the lone base run of the game for Fisher. At the plate, Lillie also dominated, picking up three hits, including a home run. She improved to 4–2 on the year from the mound.

After sweeping Fisher yesterday, the Bombers moved on to sweep Nazareth in 3–0 and 8–2 wins, respectively.

Senior Alyssa Brook took the hill in the first game and threw a complete-game three-hit shutout. She struck out six and walked only one batter in the game.

Junior Kerry Barger and Allison Greaney each picked up two hits. Barger hit her second home run in two days.

On the game, the Blue and Gold stole five bases — their highest in one game since a win over SUNY-Oneonta last April. Freshman Jen Biondi picked up two stolen bases to improve her season total to 5-for-5.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the South Hill squad’s early season power came back in midseason form.

Greaney hit two home runs and freshman Molly O’Donnell added another, bringing the team’s total to 18 home runs — the fifth highest single-season total in the softball program’s history.

Lillie took the mound again and improved to 5–2 while striking out six.

The Blue and Gold return to Rochester on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader against the University of Rochester.
