Sports Editor |

While parents, alumni and students flooded the Ithaca College campus for Homecoming last weekend, the eight fall varsity teams represented South Hill to its fullest, either winning or tying in their respective games Saturday. Sports Editor Andrew Lovell recaps Saturday’s games.

Football: Senior running back Jamie Donovan moved into first place on Ithaca’s all-time rushing list after totaling 193 yards in the Bombers’ 35–0 victory against the Norwich University Cadets. Classmate Alex Baez also eclipsed the 100-yard mark, tallying 116 yards. Both backs scored two touchdowns each to lead the Blue and Gold to their 24th Homecoming win in the last 26 years.

Women’s tennis: Senior Rachel Gunderson earned Empire 8 Player of the Week honors for her performance in Ithaca’s 8–1 win against Stevens Institute of Technology. Gunderson was victorious in both doubles and singles competition, the latter of which moved her into sole possession of third place on the career singles wins list with 45 career wins.

Volleyball: The South Hill squad claimed the team title at the Eastern Connecticut Crabtree Classic, defeating four teams by a score of 3–0. Senior outside hitter Amanda Hubbard was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, after collecting 57 kills, 32 digs and six aces in the team’s four victories this weekend.

Field hockey: Senior Stacey Brown netted one goal, and sophomore Krista Fieselmann scored twice in the Bombers’ 3–0 win against Hartwick College. Sophomore Courtney Dowell made four saves in the second half to preserve the shut out. The win was Ithaca’s second straight, after a 1–6 start to the season.

Women’s soccer: Four different Bombers scored in Ithaca’s 4–0 win against Hartwick College. Senior Colleen Masterson, sophomore Amy Scheffer and seniors Alli Mayo and Marci Buehler each scored for Ithaca, who extended their record conference winning streak to 28 games. Senior goalie Aimee Meacham stopped one shot in goal, earning her sixth shutout of the season.

Men’s soccer: The Blue and Gold played conference rival St. John Fisher College to a 0–0 tie Saturday. Junior goalie Andy Wilhelm stopped all four shots he faced, picking up his second shutout of the year in the process. It was the first tie for both the Bombers and Cardinals.
