The volleyball team won its opening match in the Nazareth College Invitational before dropping three consecutive matches to bring its overall record to 11–12 on the season.

The Bombers took the court against SUNY-Brockport first, defeating the Golden Eagles three sets to one. Junior Corinna Doctor’s two aces helped the junior setter reach a milestone, tying Laurie Roberts ’93 for seventh all-time in career aces. Junior Jen Heberton also contributed both offensively and defensively with 14 kill shots and 13 digs.

Freshman players were key in the victory, combining for 21 blocks and 10 kills. Freshman Elizabeth Previte recorded five blocks and eight of those kills alone.

The latter half of Saturday’s action brought different results for the Blue and Gold. Rochester Institute of Technology found a way to defeat the Bombers, 3–2. The South Hill squad forced a fifth game after winning game two, 30–28, and game four, 25–21. Junior Jen Heberton posted her second straight double-double, with 15 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore Tina Orlandini led the Bomber defense with 20 digs. In spite of the efforts, Ithaca lost to the Tigers for the second time this season in as many matches.

On the second day of competition, The South Hill squad fell to a 15–4 Springfield College by scores of 25–18, 25–23, and 25–21. Senior Brianna D’errico had three serving aces and Tina Orlandini Jen Heberton each had 11 digs.

The Bombers’ final match of the tournament was against Nazareth. Despite the loss, freshman Karen Edsall and sophomore Tina Orlandini managed to post 45 of the teams’ 84 digs. Junior Setter Corinna Doctor led the attack for the Blue and Gold with four aces, adding to her seventh place all time Bomber serving ace record.

The next action for the Blue and Gold is at 4 p.m. tomorrow against Hartwick College at the Interleague Challenge at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
