Volleyball takes down Oneonta

| Staff Writer

The volleyball team has struggled to gain ground the past few weekends and with the most recent injury to sophomore Liz Previte at practice Monday, the outcome seemed grim for yesterday’s match at SUNY-Oneonta. But the resilient Bombers were able to overcome their struggles to attain a key victory thanks to an outstanding offensive performance. The Bombers captured the 3–1 win by the score of 25–22, 25–19, 23–25, 25–18.

The Blue and Gold, who moved to 17–13 with the win, were aided by the high-powered attack of senior Rachel Busch and sophomores Kate Thoene and Karin Edsall. Busch led the South Hill squad with 18 kills. Edsall contributed 12 kills and hit .333, while Thoene, last week’s Empire 8 Player of the Week, put up 15 kills and hit .367 in the contest.

Another highlight for Ithaca was the continued exceptional play of senior setter Corinna Doctor who boasted one of her best statistical performances of the season with 48 assists, nine digs, and two service aces. With yet another 40-plus set performance, Doctor now has 5,171 assists, just 128 away from the Ithaca College record.

The Bombers are back in action Saturday as they finish their conference schedule with the Empire 8 crossover at Nazareth College.
