Bombers take first at Misericordia

The women’s cross country team stayed undefeated with its third consecutive win of the season, at the Cougar Classic at Misericordia University. With a team total of 28 points, the Bombers’ closest opponent was host Misericordia with 93. The dominating 65-point margin of victory was Ithaca’s largest of the season.  

Reigning Empire 8 Runner of the Week, senior Lindsey Nadolski was the highest-placing member of the Blue and Gold finishing second overall with a time of 18:45. Junior Melanie McCormick finished fourth overall with a time of 19:19, while freshman Heidi Baumbach continued to impress with her third top five finish of the season, crossing the line three seconds behind McCormick in fifth.

Both senior Kasey Currier and sophomore Catherine Ortiz finished with a time of 19:54, filling out the eighth and ninth spots respectively. Junior Amanda Boccio rounded out the top 10 with a time of 20:00.

Ithaca finished with six runners finishing in the top 10, proving again that they will be a competitive force come November.

The South Hill squad returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Ronald C. Hoffman Invitational at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
