Women’s crew competed in six races against boats from nine other schools yesterday at the College of the Holy Cross. The Bombers posted second-place finishes in the first varsity and second varsity 8 events, competing against the top-ranked Williams College who won both races.
The women’s first varsity 8 boat finished second to Williams with a time of 6:56.8 to William’s 6:43.1. Ithaca’s and William’s first varsity 8 boats were the only boats in the first varsity race to record sub-seven minute times. The remainder of the first varsity 8 field was rounded out with the College of Holy Cross in third (7:07.3), Tufts University in fourth (7:19.2), Wesleyan University in fifth and Colby College in sixth, in 7:34.4 and 7:38.8, respectively.
In the second varsity 8 race, Ithaca finished second to Williams for a second time, finishing roughly 20 seconds behind with times of 6:47.9 and 7:07.7, respectively. The rest of field was filled out with Holy Cross, Tufts, Wesleyan and Colby finishing third through sixth.
The women’s third varsity 8 boat finished third in its race, behind Williams and Trinity College — first and second — and 20 seconds ahead of fourth-place finisher Holy Cross. The Blue and Gold recorded a time of 7:25.1 in the third varsity 8 race.
In novice competition, the Bombers’ novice 8 finished fifth overall, with Tufts, Holy Cross, Connecticut College and Wesleyan locking up first through fourth. The Bombers also competed in the novice four and the fourth varsity 8 races.
Women’s crew returns to competition against Williams College, Bates College, Marist College and the Coast Guard Academy at 8 a.m. Saturday in Pittsfield, Mass.
