Staff Writer |
For the first time in 21 years, the women’s indoor track team captured the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference title, winning the meet with a combined score of 64.5 points. The title adds to the already historic season for the No. 7-ranked Bombers.

At ECACs, held in Northampton, Mass., on Saturday, the Bombers won two individual events in addition to the team title. Junior Marcia McCord took the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.67, her fastest on the year. Graduate student Lauren Koppel won the pentathlon, with a total of 3,162 points, 98 points ahead of her next closest competitor.

Other highlights included a third-place finish in the mile for junior Kate Leugers, running a personal best time of 5:01.42, which provisionally qualifies her for nationals. Senior Sarah Moskey captured second in the 1,000-meter run, earning eight points for the Bombers.

Sophomore Emma Dewart, a pentathlete who has already qualified for nationals, competed in the high jump and 55-meter hurdles, placing third in both.

Winning by 14.5 points, the Bombers will look to continue their hot streak at nationals next weekend at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

McCord and Dewart are already locked in to compete at nationals and many others have provisionally qualified. Official participants will be released tomorrow.
