| Sports Editor

The women’s lacrosse team picked up a pair of Empire 8 victories this weekend, defeating the Rochester Institute of Technology 15–10 yesterday, and topping Alfred University 21–1 today.

The Bombers now sit at 5–5 overall and 4–3 in the Empire 8.

Junior Becky Bedard dominated the Tigers yesterday, finishing with three goals and a career-high seven assists. Her assist mark tied Ithaca’s school record. With Bedard feeding them all game long, seniors Kim Medla and Meagan Howell each netted five goals.

Sophomores Sarah Cox and Kassie Garfield also found the net once each. Senior goalie Emily Brooks stopped nine shots in the win, while allowing only 10 goals.

Against the Saxons, the Blue and Gold dominated in virtually every facet of the game. Eleven Bombers scored, including Howell, freshman Catherine Hurley and sophomore Krista Fieselmann, who tied for the team lead with three goals each.

Medla, senior Sarah Knauf, sophomore Lauren Fitzgerald, and freshmen Rachel Maley and Emily Finn all tallied two goals in the decisive victory.

The Bombers out-shot Alfred by a staggering margin of 36–5. Brooks picked up the win in goal, as she made one save in the first 25:54 of the game before giving way to backup goalies sophomore Courtney Dowell and junior Heidi Puccio.

The next game for the women’s lacrosse team will take place at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Clinton, N.Y., against Hamilton College.
