Four players had multi-goal games, including junior midfielder Katie Hurley and senior attack Kylie McClure, who both eclipsed the 100-goal milestone for their careers. Both players scored off of free position shots and became the 15th and 16th Bombers to achieve the feat.
Hurley said the milestone was an individual achievement that didn’t really cross her mind until it happened.
“It wasn’t something I was really looking for, but it was fun to get it the same day as Kylie,” she said.
The South Hill squad led 10–0 at the half behind three points each from sophomore attack Nicole Borisenok and freshman midfielder Tracy Rivas. Freshman midfielder Nicole Dahl scored her first career goal at the start of the second half.
Senior goalie Courtney Dowell made seven saves in net for her sixth win of the year. Her two goals allowed were the lowest total since 2007 when Ithaca beat Sweet Briar College 16–2.
The Bombers held the Saxons, who had the conference leaders in goals and assists in junior attack Michelle Adams and senior attack Emily Tobin, scoreless for more than 45 minutes. Senior midfielder Lauren Fitzgerald had a team-leading four ground balls in the defensive effort, while Hurley forced three turnovers.
McClure said that she and Hurley contributed greatly to the team’s depth in the 12th straight win against Alfred.
“We have good team chemistry and it was our aggressiveness and intensity going from defense to midfield up from the attack that got us the win,” she said.
Junior Abby Peterson said that performing well in conference play the rest of the way would prepare the team for some nationally ranked opponents that they have been losing to.
“It’s good for us to play teams [in our conference] that know our system because it only makes us better and gets us sharper,” she said.
The Bombers continue their home stretch at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday as they take on William Smith College.
