No. 7 wrestling team takes down Lycoming

The No. 7 ranked wrestling team came out of another dual match dominantly victorious by defeating host No. 30 Lycoming College 30–9 Thursday n Williamsport, Pa.

With the win, the Blue and Gold improved to 11–1 in dual meets this season.

Out of the nine scheduled bouts, the South Hill squad won eight.

Freshman Seth Ecker (125 pounds) won by major decision with a score of 12–3. He is now 16–5 on the year. Senior John Paxos (141 pounds) also won by major decision with a score of 11–2. With the win, he is 19–6 this year and 65–37 in his career.

Two Bombers won by technical fall in their respective matches. Freshman Chad Candidorio (133 pounds) won by technical fall at 6:51 with a 21–6 lead. He is 15–7 this season and 5–1 in dual meets.

Junior Willie Horwath (157 pounds), who is ranked No. 9 in Division III, was the other wrestler to win by technical fall, improving his record to 27–5 overall this season and 12–0 in dual meets. He is 82–27 in his career.

The remaining four wins for the Blue and Gold came by decision. Sophomore Blaine Woszczak (149 pounds), senior co-captain Scott Edwards (165 pounds), sophomore David Priest (174 pounds) and junior Joe Goetz (heavyweight) all came out victorious.

Lycoming’s only victory came in a decision in the 184-pound match and a forfeit in the 197 pound match.

The Bombers return to action at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 against SUNY-Oneonta in Ben Light Gymnasium.
