The win marked the second time the Blue and Gold defeated the Colonels this season. They defeated Wilkes Jan. 10 at the Budd Whitehill National Duals at Lycoming College by a score of 26–13.
In Saturday’s contest, the only pin of the meet came in the last bout, when junior heavyweight Joe Goetz pinned Andrew Feldman 1:14 into the match.
There were two major decision victories for the South Hill squad. The first was done by senior 141-pound John Paxos, who won over Anthony Dattolo by an 8–0 score. The second was junior Willie Horwath, who defeated James Histead at 157 pounds with a 13–4 win.
Horwath is ranked No. 9 in his weight class nationally and the win earned him a team-best 29 on the season.
Junior co-captain Chad Winowich (133 pounds), senior co-captain Scott Edwards (165 pounds) and sophomore David Priest (174 pounds) all won their bouts by decision.
Seth Ecker, a 125-pound freshman, won the opening bout of the match by forfeit.
The Blue and Gold’s last dual meet of the 2008-09 campaign is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at No. 29 SUNY–Corltand.
