Blue and Gold improve to 7–0
| Staff Writer
The Bombers are 7–0 in dual meets this season and have 11 straight victories in dual matches dating back to last season.
The highlight of Wednesday night’s contest was the four pins Ithaca recorded.
As in most of the South Hill squad’s matches, the lightweights dominated the opposition. In this one, they did so with an exclamation point as 125-pound senior Jon Gregory, 133-pound senior Chad Winowich and 149-pound freshman Evan Connors all pinned their opponent, while 141-pound junior Jeremy Stierly won by major decision. After the first four bouts, the score was 22–0 Ithaca.
Following the Tigers win in the 157-pound bout by decision, 165-pound senior John Dale won his match by forfeit.
The last four bouts were split between the two squads, with sophomore heavyweight Matt Mahon getting Ithaca’s fourth pin and his team leading sixth of the season.
Today’s match was much the same. To start, the lightweights gave the South Hill squad the first five bouts of the match.
A forfeit, two decisions and two major decisions put the score at 17–0 Ithaca halfway through the contest.
The Bombers won three out of the final five bouts, with wins from 174-pound freshman Josue Mendez, 197-pound senior David Sbriscia and Mahon.
Both Sbriscia and Mahon won by pin fall. Out of Mahon’s 14 wins, seven have been by fall.
With finals and winter break coming up at Ithaca College, the Bombers are off for the rest of 2009. Their next set of competitions begin Jan. 9 when they travel to Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., for the North-South Duals.
