The women's soccer team extended its season with a narrow 1–0 shutout over Muhlenberg College yesterday at William Smith College’s Cozzens Field. The Blue and Gold, ranked No. 15 in the NCAA playoffs, will face sixth-seeded William Smith at 1:00 p.m. today.
Senior forward and midfielder Amy Scheffer scored the game’s only goal off her own rebound in the 79th minute as three defenders and the goalkeeper crowded the net. It was Scheffer's team-leading 14th goal of the season.
The South Hill squad outshot Muhlenberg 18–4 and held an 8–2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Platt earned her third-straight shutout, making three saves. Her best stop came in the 30th minute on a low shot at the right post. Six minutes later, she broke up a breakaway by Muhlenberg defender Meghan O’Grady.
