How could something so horrible look so adorable?
I think I might have found my favorite local festival since the Hogzilla parade. On April 28 in Tokyo, the annual baby crying competition was held. A competition about crying babies! Apparently, a bunch of sumo wrestlers try to force tears out of the contestants, and whoever cries the loudest is pronounced the winner. More than 84 babies took part in this year’s event, each of them less than a year old. They justify the obvious cruelty (and admitted hilarity) by saying that it’s a prayer for the babies’ health and growth.
I’ve made a few babies cry in my day, so I’m really not one to judge…actually, wait. I’d LOVE to judge! Sign me up for next year’s competition!
