It’s curtains for Spring Awakening

Producers of Spring Awakening, the Tony-award winning musical about angsty German teenagers in the 19th century, announced Thursday that the show will be closing in just a few short months. The final performance is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2009

In case you’re skeptical, here are just a few reasons you should make a trip to the city and check out Spring Awakening before it closes:

Jeepers crumpets!

The first minute of the highly-anticipated porn (wow, that’s a first) about Sarah Palin has been leaked onto the internetz. It’s called Who’s Nailin’ Paylin? [sic] and we pretty much get our answer in the first scene when the VP-to-be gets visited by a pair of friendly Russians.

The script is solid as far as porn goes, but I’m not entirely sure the movie’s star, Lisa Ann, has ever actually seen Sarah Palin. You’ll understand what I mean when you hear her “accent.”

Was Tina Fey not available? This could have really jazzed up her resume.

Update (Oct. 23): The clip has been pulled from YouTube — thanks Nate for bringing that to my attention — but you can get more info. on the movie on its official MySpace profile.

The Passions curse continues

I am very sad to report that Passions creator James E. Reilly died last weekend while he was in the hospital recovering from cardiac surgery. He was only 60 years old.

Reilly’s sister, Cathy Robinson spoke to Soap Opera Digest about the loss:

He was a towering person in our industry who had a tremendous faith in God and Catholicism, as anyone who watched Passions knows.

But Reilly’s premature death isn’t just sad; it’s also eerie. Two other strange deaths have occurred throughout Passions‘ nine year run:

Besides creating Passions, Reilly was also a head writer for Days of our Lives and Guiding Light. His work on Guiding Light earned him a Daytime Emmy in 1993.

The hair makes the man… a tool

In one of the funniest (and inadvertantly offensive) photo galleries I’ve flipped through in a long time, Style.com takes us through the history of “douchebag hair.”

The tour is divded into categories, which include Disney stars, country stars and even “lesbians” like Rosie O’Donnell and Clay Aiken. (I promise, it’ll make sense after you see it).

Katy Perry ate cake, the floor

Katy Perry’s performance on Los Premios MTV 2008 was fun and it made good use of cake — but when the song ended and Katy decided to do a belly flop onto it, things kind of went south.

She started laughing and falling down and having trouble getting back up … which was funny, but also kind of confusing.

Unlike my incoherent rant about Ne-Yo (see below), I do have a video to go along with this one:

Ne-Yo’s Obama publicity stunt/coat

So I just watched Ne-Yo perform (I don’t know why) on The Late Show with David Letterman (again, I don’t know why) and he was more than just smooth. He was also political… sort of.

I don’t even remember the song he performed — I do know that it wasn’t “Closer” because I remember being disappointed — but I couldn’t forget (or miss) his jacket. It seemed like a normal suit, and it was, but on the back of the jacket was a big ol’ photo of Barack Obama.

You could notice it when the camera went behind him, but it was never for very long. And when he turned around in a close-up, the camera always cut away. I’m not going to lie, I don’t really have an opinion of this yet… or a video/picture. I just feel like it’s going to be all over the news tomorrow and I wanted to be the first one on the pony.

(Guh… That was the closest I’ve ever come to being political. And I’m not doing it again).

The perks of celebrity

Does Christine Baranski know she has a reserved parking space at the Shaw’s supermarket in Boston? If not, she should really come take advantage of the tremendous savings.

(It’s entirely possible that my obsession with CB has caused me to misinterpret the meaning of this sign… but I’m OK with that).

Vintage CB

Have you ever watched Christine Baranski in action and, in between sighs of adoration, wondered if she was always that talented? Well, the answer is: “Yes… and how dare you even question her?”

Apparently CB guest starred on an episode of The Brady Bunch in 1970 titled “The Slumber Caper.” Then credited as Chris Charney, she played Paula, one of Marcia’s naughty little friends.

In the scene below, the girls are all assembled in the Brady living room for a slumber party. Then most of the girls scurry upstairs, but Marcia and CB stay behind to make out talk about stuff. Then they get really itchy and start scratching themselves like crazy. It’s probably just poor YouTube editing, but I don’t care. I’d pay admission to watch her put mustard on a sandwich

Britney - clothes + wigs = Womanizer video

Like a majestic phoenix rising from its ashes, Britney Spears is back with a new video for Womanizer, the first single off her upcoming sixth studio album Circus.

The video is a basically a hodge podge of all the things Britney does best: Wiggling around naked and wearing crazy wigs. Then in the last part, she channels her inner Nomi Malone and kicks the crap out of some dude.

It’s kind of a cross between her video for Toxic and that Dolly Parton movie 9 to 5. Didn’t think that was possible? Yeah, me neither. But it is, and it totally works:

Worth revisiting

I feel like I make some sort of Nightmare Before Christmas-related plea every year at this time. Back in 2007, I urged you to check out the movie’s limited run in 3-D. This time I’m dishing out a little treat for your ears:

Nightmare Revisited, released Sept. 30 on Walt Disney Records, is a compilation of brand new cover songs from the movie. Performers on the disc range from The All-American Rejects and Plain White T’s (kind of lame) to RJD2 and Shiny Toy Guns (kind of amazing).

And say what you will about Evanescence, but Amy Lee’s cover of “Sally’s Song” is my favorite track. I’m a sucker for music that makes me bleed.

If you don’t feel like paying $13 on Amazon, you can listen to the album on YouTube. Full track listing after the jump:
