holiday parties for less.
Came across this cool article by Alex Williams in the New York Times. Williams asked David Monn, celebrated event planner in New York, to meet him at Kmart. Williams gave Monn the seeminly impossible task of designing a holiday dinner party for eight at $30 a head - which is less than 1/100 of the budget he’s used to.
Monn gladly accepted the challenge and stated that the recession takes all of the pressure off - …”it allows us to strip away all the stuff that’s not important and focus on what is: friends, family, togetherness.”
The pair successfully pulled it off - who’s to say we can’t be chic and save at the same time? To check out the specifics read on at NYTimes.com

go “ecco” friendly
Last Thursday night, after a horrible trip to LAX and back, I attended the opening of Ecco - Hollywood’s first eco-friendly ultra lounge. Granted, we finally got there at 1 a.m., Ecco was great and people seemed to be having an awesome time.
It was the standard, if you’re a girl it’s easy to get in - but I did witness three dudes that did not gain entry because they didn’t bring chicks with them. The LED lit dance floor was poppin - one of the many eco-friendly features in the lounge. Other features include: environmentally friendly cement, neutralized carbon emissions, paper use reduction in bathrooms, interior and exterior paints, paperless drywall, cotton insulation, recycled materials were used during construction, “green” carpet, and several others.

a toast to denim
Skinnies, dark wash, low waist. That’s my denim cocktail of choice. It’s like ordering a drink at the bar – you chose a base and add flavors (unless you like it straight up). Just like we all have our signature drink, we all have our go-to pair of jeans and they’re one item that can be worn all seasons without looking out of place.
Denim has come a long way since their invention in 1853 by Levi Strauss. Originally made for their durability during the California Gold Rush, denim was popular among miners. Although jeans are just, well – jeans, it’s important to note how each season brings a new denim trend.
How does denim keep its flare? Well, they aren’t just straight leg, flare, or bootcut anymore. Now we have; Joey, Becky, Dojo, Ingrid, Kelly and Olivia. These are just some of the names our favorite pairs of jeans go by today.

pepsi!
So, the advertising agency I’m interning at, TBWA\Chiat\Day just won the Pepsi account after BBDO had it for almost 50 years. It’s truly a moment in history. TBWA\LA is known for disrupting brands and turning them completely around and Pepsi definitely needs a makeover.
Just seeing Rob, the creative director, and Carissa, the president, talk as the entire 1000 person agency gathered on the basketball court was a moment itself. It really did remind me why I wanted to work in the industry and I just thought I’d share the good news back home.
Go Chiat!
yahoo ceo steps down

Jerry Yang stepped down as CEO of Yahoo last week. He’ll return to his position as Chief Yahoo and will remain on the board of directors.
Under Yang’s watch, the company lost over tens of billions of dollars and tons of employees were laid off.
There is speculation that Jeff Mallet or Dan Rosenweig are possible candidates, but many hope that an outside is brought in.
apologies.

blackberry storm
The new blackberry storm is kinda sick. I love my iPhone, but it seems like this touch screen phone is a fair match. Al Sacco wrote two reviews on why he prefers the iPhone or the Blackberry.
Here’s why he prefers the Storm:
- Stereo Bluetooth capability
- Removable battery
- Expandable memory
- Video recording
- Works as a tethered modem
- Tactile feedback
- Copy and paste
- Multitasking
Here’s why he prefers the iPhone
- It’s now second-generation
- Built-in memory
- iTunes App Store
- iTunes integration
- Full QWERY (virtual) keyboard
- Wi-Fi support
- iPod media player
- Safari browser
