There will be NO blood. Sorry, hospital patients!

blood driveSan Jose State University has banned blood drives on its campus because of a federal policy that prohibits gay men from donating blood.

The school’s president, Don Kassing, says the government’s policy is in conflict with the school’s commitment to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Now, put me on the record as being pro-gay rights, but isn’t there a better way to protest a biased government policy than by having a tantrum and possibly endangering the lives of patients who are in dire need of blood tranfusions? I’ve talked to many people who wouldn’t be alive today if there wasn’t fresh blood on hand when they were seriously injured. Something should be done about the government’s short-sightedness, but not this.
