Five Video Boo-Boos

“Everybody hurts…sometimes.”~R.E.M.

Rock stars face many hazards, including drug overdose, STDs and embarrassing sex tapes.?These injuries can be physical, and occasionally are caught on film and released with singles.?Here are five examples of videos where the artists’ hearts aren’t the only things getting broken.

5) The White Stripes - “Icky Thump” - Talk about creative differences! Things start off badly for singer / guitarist Jack White when he?falls off of a moving truck, suffering a massive head wound. When Stripes drummer Meg White, posing as?a one-eyed prostitute, helps our hero off the ground, it is hard not to assume she will nurse him back to health.?Yet instead, she bounds him up and robs him, leaving Jack to stage a Saw-like escape.?Tensions will run high on the tour bus tonight!

4) Blur - “Song 2″ - Amazing idea #1: Let’s build a room out of trampolines and jump around in it.?Amazing idea #2: Let’s run a slo-mo clip?of lead singer Damon Albarn bashing himself against one of these walls, with an angle sure to elicit images of car wrecks. Check out 0:49 and get ready to squirm!

Trailer Trash Of A Feather…

??????????????????????? uncle_kracker_1_500.jpg
First, rapper Kid Rock gets busted for causing a ruckus at the MTV Video Music Awards this month.

The charges? Fighting?drummer Tommy Lee over the love of their mutual ex-wife, Pamela Anderson.

Today, a judge has sentenced Uncle Kracker, an unfortunately-named protege of Rock, to probation for a year, a $1,500 fine and an alcohol assessment.

The charges? Sticking his hand up a woman’s skirt at a club and slapping her after she called him out on it. Classy.

Perhaps the most distressing element of this story is that Sharp Notes was convinced that Kracker was going to phase himself out into obscurity, purchasing the nicest trailer money could buy and spending his remaining days drinking 40’s in the deep south. But after the trauma this event?doubtlessly caused him, it is only a matter of time before we get the comeback album were Kracker takes 12 tracks to apologize to God and his fans for the trouble he has caused.

If it were up to Sharp Notes, Kid Rock and his posse of d-listers would just, in the words of Kracker himself,?”Drift Away.” Better yet, the whole crew could create one captivating hour of television if they?all?paid a visit to The Jerry Springer Show.? We’d love to see Steve struggle to?restrain Tommy Lee - now that’s entertainment!

Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, and a whole bunch of friends (including the midget!) perform “Cowboy” on Leno:

Blast From The Past Friday: Patsy Cline’s ?Showcase?

??????????????????? 375?375.jpg

The original badass country girl, Patsy Cline made quite an impact before her death at age 30. With a voice that cuts a hole in any heart, Cline’s vocals evoke buried layers of the soul, pain and joy which marked her brief career. No release properly explores this emotion like 1961’s?Showcase, one of just three albums released during her lifetime. Recorded with singing group The Jordanaires, this document contains some of the artist’s greatest hits, including the Willie Nelson-penned “Crazy,” the starmaking “I Fall To Pieces,” and the heartbreaking “True Love.” The best work of a true genre master.

Travis Barker Bashes Out A Soulja Boy Remix

In Sharp Notes? never-ending quest to understand the mass appeal of Soulja Boy?s ?Crank That (Soulja Boy),? we stumbled upon a video of +44 drummer Travis Barker remixing the track with prerecorded guitar and live drums. It cannot be denied that Barker is a talented drummer and it is impressive to watch raw footage of him at work, but we are still at a loss as to whether this rock remix betters the song or simply makes an already obnoxious track even louder. We?re open to input.

Foo Fighters: The Last Rock ‘N’ Roll Band?

With the release of their excellent sixth album Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, Foo Fighters are left at an odd crossroads. As far as Sharp Notes can tell, there are no bands besides the Foos who are playing rock ?n? roll anymore. Music has come a long way from the days of Led Zeppelin and The Who, where every song featured monster riffs and a killer beat. The universal power of these bands was a sight to behold, with arenas full of screaming fans pumping fists and worshipping drum solos. And while there is plenty of other music out there to listen to, Dave Grohl appears to be the last remaining rock ?n? roll frontman around.

?But Sharp Notes,? you might say. ?There are plenty of rock bands out there - I listen to __________ and they rock out with guitars and stuff.? Yes, there are many axe-based groups out there - some of whom even utilize their instruments with more virtuosity than the Foo Fighters. But it is important to judge what makes a ?rock ?n? roll? band different from any other. Using a highly scientific process, Sharp Notes has analyzed what separates a rock ?n? roll band from a regular group, and why your favorite band (unless they are Foo Fighters) does not play rock ?n? roll music.

Decree #1 - All Rock ?N? Roll Music Must: Wield Excessive Guitar Solos.

Duh. The first rule of any rockers worth their weight in hair products is they must write songs around face-melting guitar solos. Said solos should cry, scream, wail and drip sweat because of their raw power. We?re not talking about a few plunked notes here - balls-out fret mayhem only, please. Accordingly, no Foo Fighters tune is without the appropriate amount of shredding.

That said, nearly all pop-rock bands (such as Fall Out Boy) and punks (such as Rancid) need not apply to be considered a true rock ?n? roll band, as their rarely solo.

Phil Spector Pulls An O.J.

untitled.jpg?

Legendary musical genius / psychopathic murderer Phil Spector was let off the hook today for the 2003 murder of?b-movie star Lana Clarkson. The judge overseeing the proceedings declared the case a mistrial after jurors were not able to reach a verdict after a second deliberation.

What’s done is done, but Sharp Notes hopes that Spector, who admitted before the trial that he was bipolar, can find some psychological help.? As someone who?once described himself as?”relatively insane” to the British press, it is clear there are demons Spector needs to exorcise. Oh, how the giants fall.

Crazy documentary clip which shows how wildly Spector behaved while working with The Ramones:

Up And Rising: You Say Party! We Say Die!

yousayparty_2.jpg

Totally rad Canadian punks You Say Party! We Say Die! are crashing into the post-punk /?disco landscape with their sophomore album, Lose All Time. Released in March, the disc did not sprout legs until this summer, when the video for debut single “Monster” hit YouTube and increased the group’s visibility.

One of the hardest female-led acts outside of Be Your Own Pet, the low-key “Monster” is not a balanced example of what the group is all about. With frantic tempo changes, fuzzed-out rhythm sections, and brash guitar, YSP!WSD! is a far cry from more palatable dance-punk groups such as Franz Ferdinand.?Vocalist Becky Ninkovic is not afraid to howl, and does she ever sound good against her crashing backers.

The best news about the new disc? The group has focused on songwriting this time around, avoiding the pitfalls of their ultra-repetitive 2005 debut Hit The Floor.? Instead, the thrilling twists?and turns and surging life of Lose All Time serve as the perfect introduction to fans both new and old.

Vote David Banner!

ap_hip_hop_070925_ms.jpg

Further proving that Congress doesn’t do s–t, terror rapper David Banner appeared?in D.C. yesterday to testify during?a hearing?titled “From Imus to Industry: The Business of Stereotypes and Degradation.” The hearing focused on the role of appropriate content in music and industry, and as the United States government only deals with black people through persecution, rap was under the microscope. There were a bunch of people there, including No Limit?CEO Master P, but the best moments were courtesy of Banner, unparalleled in his articulate, and often hilarious, points.

Excerpts:

“If by some stroke of the pen hip-hop was silenced, the issues would still be present in our communities. Drugs, violence and the criminal element were around long before hip-hop existed.”

?”I’m like Stephen King: horror music is what I do.”

“Arnold Schwarzenegger is governor of California, but in his movies he killed half of Cambodia and he went to Mars and blew up Mars. But that’s OK because he’s a white man and he’s an actor.”

Kanye + Clipse = Gold

???????????????? clipse_stress.jpg

The best Kanye song from Graduation, “Flashing Lights,” gets the remix treatment.? This time, a DJ has slapped mixtape verses from Sharp Notes’ favorite cocaine rappers, Clipse, over the original beat.? And guess what? It’s dope.

Kanye West - Flashing Lights (ft. Clipse) (Remix).mp3

And for all of our creative readers out there, here is an instrumental version of the tune.? Feel free to get inspired and rap on your own!
