The final tally of wins was 535 games to 510 games. From middle school to high school, a pingpong table served as the battleground for a competitive after-school ritual between brothers Dan and Justin Levine.
After suffering two late-season losses to Stevens Institute of Technology last year, the men’s tennis team is looking to vanquish its Empire 8 Conference rival and take the final step toward a conference title in 2012.
During the past four years, two men’s tennis teams have dominated the Empire 8 conference — Ithaca College and Stevens Institute of Technology — rivals that are slated to clash twice in the next two weeks.
Entering its 2010 spring campaign, the men’s tennis team had one goal: win the Empire 8 tournament. Currently undefeated in conference, the Blue and Gold stand poised to make a run for their second consecutive conference title and third title in four years.
The men’s tennis team won their 11th straight match and remained unbeaten in conference play with a 9–0 win against St. John Fisher College Tuesday afternoon. The Bombers, currently ranked 16th in the region, surrendered 11 games as a team in the match.
The men’s tennis team swept Alfred University 9–0 yesterday at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University. The victory extended Ithaca’s Empire 8 regular season winning streak to an unprecedented 17 matches stretching back to 2008.
