Baseball wins out-of-conference matchup against St. Lawrence

The Ithaca College baseball team continued their success from April into May as they picked up a 6–3 victory over St. Lawrence University on May 4. With the victory, the Bombers are now 21–14 on the season.

As they have for much of the season, the Blue and Gold got off to a quick start with a double from junior second baseman Josh Savacool, who was driven in just one batter later on a double by freshman third baseman Webb Little. Freshman right fielder Sam Little picked up an RBI single later in the inning to put the Bombers up 2–0.

In the second inning, the Bombers had a rare at-bat. Sophomore center fielder Domenic Boresta smacked a hit down the left field line and hustled his way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run.

After St. Lawrence picked up a run in the fifth inning, the Bombers wasted no time padding their lead. Junior shortstop Trevor Thompson launched a home run into left field for his fourth of the season to extend the Bombers’ lead to 5–1.

The Saints came back with two home runs in the sixth and eighth innings, but the Bomber pitching staff was quick to shut down their momentum.

Senior starter Benji Parkes went five strong innings while giving up only one earned run on four hits. He also struck one out en route to his sixth win of the season. Sophomore Tyler Hill entered the game in relief and threw four innings while allowing two runs and racking up six strikeouts. Hill picked up his first save of the season as well.

Savacool went 3–5 on the day with one run scored, and Webb Little drove in one run while going 2–4.

The Bombers return to action 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. May 7 at home at Freeman Field against Elmira College in an Empire 8 matchup.
