Junior forward Colleen Keegan-Twombly moves the ball up the field during the field hockey team’s 7–0 shutout victory over Wells College on Oct. 7 at HIggins Stadium.

Following a 2–1 loss to William Smith College on Sept. 30, the Bombers came back with a driving force to dominate Wells College with a 7–0 win on Oct. 7 at Higgins Stadium. The victory also broke the team’s previous season-high for goals.

On the day, the Bombers had 18 total shots, 14 of which were on goal. Forward Colleen Keegan-Twombly led the offensive effort, recording her first ever hat trick. Keegan-Twombly scored the first goal of the game just 78 seconds in, with an assist from Michaela Donohue, making the goal her fifth of the season.

In the ninth minute of play, Donohue scored a goal of her own on a rebound to give the Bombers a 2–0 advantage only 10 minutes into the first half. The Blue and Gold would go on to score two more goals in the first period of play, when sophomore forward Amanda Schell found the back of the net off an assist from senior back Caitlin O’Brien and freshman back Maria McGloin went on to score the last goal of the half, and her first goal of the season to give the Bombers a 4–0 lead.

After setting the tone during the first half, the Bombers were not satisfied with their lead. Instead they used it to fight even harder as three more goals were scored during the second half.

The first was by freshman forward MaryKate Siegel in the 55th minute of play to give the South Hill squad a 5–0 lead. Keegan-Twombly finished what she started when she managed to score the final two goals of the game, the first assisted by O’Brien and the second unassisted, solidifying the final score of 7–0.

The Bombers are back in action when they take on Empire 8 opponent Elmira College at 1 p.m. Oct. 10 at Higgins Stadium.
