Ithaca College crew brings home multiple state titles

The Ithaca College men’s and women’s crew competed and won multiple state titles in the New York State Championships April 30 on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The No. 5 women’s team took first place in their heat of the varsity 8 with a time of 6:50.9. The Blue and Gold won the grand final and a state title after finishing the race in 6:49.2, coming in roughly three seconds earlier than the five other boats.

The women’s second varsity 8 boat placed second in their respective grand final, five seconds after Marist’s winning time, finishing in 7:22.3. The Bombers third varsity 8 boat finished their heat in 8:02.4, winning another first place and state title, beating Marist by under one second.

The varsity 4 boat finished the grand final in second place overall with a time of 8:08.1. The squad’s second varsity 4 boat finished with a time of 8:28.1 and won the petit finale.

The Bombers novice 8 boats placed well in their grand final, finishing in second and third place.

The men earned two third place finishes after their varsity 8 final boat completed the race in 6:05.0, and the JV 8 final boat rowed their heat in at 6:19.3. The Blue and Gold’s novice 4 final took third overall with a time of 8:21.6.

Both squads’ next regatta will be May 8 at the National Invitational Rowing Championships in Worcester, Massachusetts.
